Specialist Treatment

The versatility of Kolina’s system makes it ideal as a treatment solution for a number of different industries where high variability of the wastewater (flow and concentration) is be expected. With typical electric consumption for treatment within the range of 0.1 – 0.5 kWh/m3 (depending on applications and conductivity of the effluent), Kolina’s integrated EC system provides a cost-effective and fully automated treatment solution that can treat a wide range of organic reagents, intermediate complexes or out of specification wastewater.

Chemical & Pharmaceutical

Kolina’s Electrochemical plant has been demonstrated to offer effective treatment of wastewater from chemical and chemical intermediate manufacturing processes, as well as specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical wastewaters.

The robustness and versatility of the technology makes it ideal for treatment of chemical wastewaters which usually have high degrees of variability in nature and concentration of contaminants.

Kolina has previously demonstrated effective treatment of Phenol and Phenolic  wastewaters, Esterification and Alkoxylate and chemical reaction intermediate effluent.

Landfill Leachate

Landfill leachate is becoming a global problematic environmental concern. While the nature of the leachate is generally determined by the nature of the landfill material, the impact on the environment usually includes unpleasant odours (in the form of Hydrogen Sulphides, Mercaptans and volatile organic compounds), release of dissolved Methane from solution and leakage of harmful chemicals into surface or groundwater. Among the list of chemicals leached into groundwater bodies are Chlorides, heavy metals, Ammonia and Ammonium Aalts, etc., which are all effectively removed by Electrocoagulation.

Mining Wastewater

Mining wastewater usually comprises of mine drainage pumped from mining areas, water used and discharged from the processing of the ores and other processing, or storm water that has come into contact with mining material. Abandoned mine drainage is one mining effluent type that is more prevalent in the UK and coal mining regions.

Kolina’s Electrocoagulation system allows for these metal and metallic ions to be coagulated. The coagulated ions are then separated from the wastewater in the non-chemical DAF within our treatment package and subsequently removed as a sludge. Similarly, organic and physical contaminants can be effectively removed via Kolina’s Electrocoagulation plant.

Pulp and Paper

Kolina’s treatment solution is highly effective for the treatment of effluent generated from the pulp and paper industry. We remove Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Colour, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), turbidity and enable the safe discharge of the treated effluents or its subsequent reuse in processes on the wastewater treatment sites.

Ship Ballast Water

A mixture of metals, Hydrocarbons and other organic compounds are effectively coagulated by Kolina’s EC cells, and separated downstream in the accompanying DAF system. Kolina’s containerised and mobile treatment system allows for quick deployment at harbours to treat bilge water on berthed ships.

Textile wastewater

Our Electrocoagulation system is highly effective for removal of a number of contaminants present in textile wastewater. In general, wastewater generated from the textile industry is contaminated with Suspended Solids, Chlorides, Nitrates, metals such as Manganese, Sodium, Lead, Copper, Chromium, Iron, high BOD and COD and is also highly coloured from dyes and or pigments. All these contaminants can be effectively treated by Kolina’s treatment plant to enable textile companies to meet their discharge target and or reduce discharge cost (based on mogden).
