Leading Pork Pie producer achieves discharge consents and saves £156k per annum in effluent charges
As a key supplier of pies & baked products to leading supermarkets, this manufacturer was failing to achieve strict consent limits which resulted in high effluent discharge costs.
An environmental improvement program was implemented to manage effluent and operating costs in a more holistic manner in line with their customers sustainability program.
With no current treatment of effluent and limited space available, a rapidly deployed, chemical free, reliable containerised solution was required.
Following Kolina’s feasibility survey which includes a comprehensive sampling regime, Kolina’s preparatory electrocoagulation system was selected as the preferred technology.
The containerised plant was sited in combination with external pumping station, balancing and sludge tanks and is able to treat 240m3 of effluent per day without the use of costly chemicals.
Kolina provided full onsite training, and offer a full service and maintenance contract to help manage and maintain the treatment plant. From completion of sit e deployed civil work, delivery, installation and commission was executed within 2 weeks.
Kolina’s electrocoagulation treatment solution achieves an average 75% reduction in COD, and 78% in TSS.
There are now no breaches in discharge consent limits.
Effluent discharge costs have reduced by 68% with an annual saving to the business of £156,000.
