Bacon processing plant achieves trade effluent discharge consent and saves £135k per annum in effluent charges
A leading Yorkshire based gourmet bacon processor that has expanded significantly in recent times, to a level whereby space within and around the site was at a premium.
With little available space for a new effluent treatment plant on site and, with ever increasing costs for the discharge of effluent due to frequent breaches of consent limits, the company enlisted the help of Kolina’s technical team to discuss and explore available solutions.
Following comprehensive consultation, a regimented suite of sampling, and analysis of all water streams, Kolina’s containerised effluent treatment plant, incorporating its patented electrocoagulation technology was confirmed as the best solution in this instance.
Installed in combination with an external pumping station, balancing and sludge tanks the plant is able to treat 240m3 of effluent per day. From completion of civil work by the companies dedicated engineering partners, the delivery, installation and commissioning on site was executed within 3 weeks.
Kolina’s electrocoagulation plant achieves an average 72% COD reduction, and 78% TSS reduction, with no breaches of discharge consent. Trade effluent discharge costs have reduced by 51% giving an annual saving of £135,000.
